Family holiday July 2006
A trip that was 9 months in the planning was always going to be a test. For Kes it was his first time in a big wide bodied aircraft, but more importantly, especially for Kes, was the duration of over 9 hours along with a jetlag of 9 hours. Of course, as an adult not accustomed to long distance flying, so we also felt the journey, but having to keep an eye on bags, children, and take it all in as we arrived and grabbed a taxi to our downtown hotel, arriving in warmth and brilliant sunshine.
Jet lag is jet lag. I went to bed at midnight, theoretically 09H00 chez nous, in an attempt to beat it. I should not have bothered, I was awake at 02H00, tried to sleep, then got up at 03H00 to find the children awake and drawing in the living room. We tried to rest, but it was hard, and at 06H30 it was a relief to get up properly and go to Denny’s for breakfast.
We then had a great day biking round the seawall and Stanley Park, but fatigue would set in. After sleeping, jet lag this time kicked in at 04H00, so I guess that was progress.
The three weeks passed quickly as we hired a motorhome and toured up to the Okanagan and to the Sunshine coast, before finishing with a week in North Vancouver. We enjoyed it a lot, only one day of rain, perhaps 6 cloudy days, and lots of fine memories. We were not sure of a move, but were positive about BC.
